INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY: DIGITAL PAYMENTS

EBANX brings Bre-B instant payments to global companies from day one

EBANX is enabling global companies to adopt Bre-B, Colombia’ s new instant payment system, from its first day of nationwide operation.

Bre-B was launched in October 2025 after a brief pilot phase and follows the blueprint of Brazil’ s Pix with interoperability, immediate settlement and 24 / 7 availability. Through a partnership with MOVii, LATAM’ s first BankTech, EBANX now offers a single integration that lets merchants provide Colombian consumers with the instant payment experience they already use locally. that helped shape features such as QR codes, keybased identification, mandatory interoperability and time-based limits designed to mitigate fraud.
More than thirty million adults are registered for Bre-B, according to Colombia’ s central bank – a figure representing 76 % of the country’ s population.
With credit card penetration at only 18 %, Colombians have increasingly turned to alternative digital payments for online shopping.
Eduardo de Abreu, Vice President of Product, EBANX, describes Bre-B as a transformative milestone for Colombia’ s Digital Transformation landscape.
MOVii’ s Chief Commercial Officer, Katherine Roa, says Bre-B gives consumers immediate access to global brands without payment barriers.
Colombia’ s digital economy has grown at double-digit rates since 2019 and is projected to exceed US $ 52 billion in 2025 – ranking third in Latin America behind Brazil and Mexico.
Payments and Commerce Market Intelligence data sourced by EBANX forecasts that the market may reach US $ 73 billion by 2028. Bre-B is poised to accelerate this trajectory by streamlining transactions for consumers and businesses across sectors.
EBANX was one of only two fintechs invited to join the Interdisciplinary Committee for Interoperable Payments, which guided regulators in building Bre-B.
Drawing on nearly five years of Pix experience in Brazil, where EBANX processes a significant share of realtime transactions, the company contributed insights
Colombia’ s approach, however, is not a direct replica of Pix. Instead of establishing a single national payment rail, Bre-B connects existing services like Transfiya and EntreCuentas with new platforms such as Credibanco and Visionamos, creating a flexible ecosystem built for scale and future integrations.
Through its partnership with MOVii, EBANX provides global merchants access to the MOVii Smart Router, which connects to every Bre-B node and intelligently routes transactions to optimise performance and cost. MOVii also acts as Bre-B’ s first sponsor bank. Colombia’ s central bank maintains the system’ s two core components: DICE, a centralised directory mapping user identities, and MOL, a settlement mechanism that moves funds instantly between financial institutions and eliminates interbank credit risk.
Bre-B currently supports person-to-person and consumer-to-merchant transactions, with future phases planned for government payments, recurring charges, payroll and high-volume disbursements. These additions will deepen Bre-B’ s role across commercial, public and financial services.
A key advantage of Bre-B is its connection to the nation’ s Family Compensation Funds, which serve forty-two percent of Colombians by providing benefits and subsidies. MOVii CEO Hernando Rubio notes that many beneficiaries previously relied on cash but can now participate fully in the Internet-driven economy. With more than eighty million payment keys issued – nearly three per user – Colombia is signalling strong demand for modern, inclusive financial tools. p
