5G network begins to operate in Rapa Nui , Chile
Located more than 3,500 kilometers from the Chilean mainland ,
Rapa Nui has had access to telecommunications services since the 1960s , thanks to the investment and technological innovation of Entel .
Büchi recalled that the browsing and network experience on the island is different from the mainland due to its reliance on satellite Internet connectivity which , although it is a type of advanced satellite technology , has capacities well below fiber optics .
Now Rapa Nui has reached a new milestone with the launch of the first antenna with 5G technology on the island .
Entel has completed the installation of two antennas in the area , marking a significant milestone in the second phase of its project for the 5.3 GHz 5G spectrum . This deployment now enables 5G connectivity from Putre to Puerto Williams , benefitting over 1.5 million customers who can now access this cutting-edge technology .
“ The installation of the first 5G antennas in Rapa Nui fills us with pride and is the result of Entel ’ s commitment to delivering connectivity , reaching every corner of the country , to bring the infinite possibilities that technology gives to all Chileans . Rapa Nui has always been among our priorities , and this is a further demonstration of our commitment ,” said Entel ’ s CEO , Antonio Büchi .
