Colombian government invests near US $ 4m in technology for schools in Bolívar
Colombian ICT Minister Mauricio Lizcano has allocated close to
US $ 4 million for the delivery of 2,400 computers for 101 public schools in the Colombian department of Bolívar .
“ It is very painful that in the 21st century , during a technology revolution , children are learning about technology in a book . We are not going to allow it ,” Lizcano said .
The computers have a security system that allows tracking the exact location of the equipment . In addition , they have educational software with content in science , programming , English and robotics .
During a visit to the El Pozón Polytechnic Educational Institution , the installation of 33 educational innovation laboratories for the region was launched – a space that allows children and young people to innovate in the world of robotics and programming .
Lizcano said he was sure Bolívar was going to take advantage of the opportunity to change lives .
“ If there is technology , I am sure that the history of this community will change ,” he said .
Shopkeepers in Colombia sold on software licences to strengthen their businesses
The licences are being delivered by MinTEC , working with the Colombian company Tiendex on the Digital Transformation initiative .
“ We are officially handing over 500 Tiendex licenses , which will allow neighborhood stores in the country to strengthen their businesses with the use of ICT ,” said Raúl Castellanos , Director of Digital Economy , MinTIC .
Tiendex is a development made in Colombia , which allows the digital administration of production units , and which , in alliance with the ICT Ministry , will promote the Digital Transformation of neighborhood stores .
“ Tiendex is the application that every entrepreneur needs , we change the way businesses are managed through easy management of billing , administration and electronic commerce ,” said Santiago Naranjo , Manager of Tiendex .
This articulated work will be supported by training , support and technical advice to boost the economic growth of the shopkeepers involved .
Colombia ’ s ICT Ministry has begun the delivery of 500 Tiendex application software licenses to shopkeepers and merchants in the city of Barranquilla .
They will be able to implement automated sales via WhatsApp , manage inventories and purchases through the digital tool – and will learn to make decisions based on real time data .
