Altium Education celebrates first Mayanon-Chip graduates to strengthen Mexico’ s semiconductor workforce
Altium Education has successfully completed the first Mayanon-Chip cohort – a regional initiative designed to develop highly specialized semiconductor and electronics design talent in Yucatán, Mexico.
Led by the Autonomous University of Yucatán( UADY) in collaboration with the Secretaría de Economía y Trabajo de Yucatán( SETY) and the Sistema Nacional de Empleo Yucatán( SNEY), the program provided advanced training in Verilog HDL, SystemVerilog, VLSI design principles, Assembly, Testing and Packaging capabilities and PCB design and simulation using Altium solutions.
Development of the initiative began in January 2024, with the first implementation taking place during the Fall 2025 semester. The program attracted 150 applications for an initial 60 places. A total of 90 students were accepted and 72 successfully completed all four courses and certification requirements.
The closing ceremony at UADY’ s Faculty of Engineering recognized undergraduate students, graduate students and engineering graduates from southeastern Mexico who completed the program and earned certifications endorsed by Altium, SETY, SNEY and semiconductor company Altera.
The initiative reflects growing collaboration between academia, government and industry to strengthen Mexico’ s semiconductor ecosystem through practical engineering skills aligned with emerging workforce demands.
Rea Callender, VP of Education and Training, Altium, said:“ As the semiconductor industry continues to evolve globally, initiatives like Mayan-on-Chip play an important role in creating opportunities for students and emerging engineers to gain handson experience with modern design technologies and workflows.”
Through Altium Education, the company continues supporting engineering training and workforce development initiatives worldwide.
