Colombia’ s Bre-B hits more than 500 million transactions as ACI Worldwide and Banco de la República take the stage at Fintech Americas 2026

Colombia’ s real-time payments transformation is accelerating rapidly.

In five months, Bre-B processed more than 500 million transactions and registered over 100 million payment keys – establishing it as one of the fastest scaling real-time payment systems in Latin America.
“ Colombia is now among the region’ s most advanced real-time payments markets,” said Mauricio Fernández, ACI Worldwide.
“ We are proud to support Banco de la República in building a system that sets a new benchmark for Latin America.”
ACI received the award for the scheme’ s collaborative design, rapid implementation and flexibility in addressing challenges while delivering Bre-B on schedule with a successful launch.
These results were highlighted at Fintech Americas Miami 2026, where Mauricio Fernández, Real-Time Payments lead for Latin America, ACI Worldwide, and Ana Carolina Ramírez Pineda, Deputy Director of Retail Payments, Banco de la República, shared insights into Bre-B’ s growth and next steps.
Powered by ACI Worldwide and operated by Banco de la República, Bre-B is transforming how Colombians send money, pay merchants and use digital financial services. Its early performance reflects both scale and inclusivity, marking one of the strongest national real-time deployments globally.

It also represents a regional first: a nationally coordinated real-time scheme developed by the central bank, regulators, banks and technology partners – setting a new standard for collaboration in Latin America.
As Banco de la República’ s technology partner, ACI provides the addressing directory, 24 / 7 clearing and settlement engine and interoperability services supporting Bre-B’ s reliability and scale.

“ The first months highlight interoperability and collaboration. Next, we will expand innovation and explore real-time crossborder opportunities.”
Looking ahead, Bre-B is expected to deepen adoption across small businesses and rural communities, while supporting new use cases such as bill payments, government disbursements and merchant acceptance.
Continued investment in infrastructure, security and user experience will be critical to sustaining momentum and ensuring long-term resilience. As Colombia’ s ecosystem evolves, Bre-B is positioned to play a central role in driving innovation, competition and financial inclusion across the country and the wider region.
