Moderna Alimentos achieves 100 % renewable energy at Quito production plant

Moderna Alimentos, a company with more than 115 years of experience in the food industry, marks a new milestone in its sustainable management by reaching 100 % renewable energy in its production plant in Quito, Peru – consolidating its commitment to an increasingly responsible and efficient operation.

This result represents an advance compared to the 85 % of clean energy use previously achieved and responds to the sustained implementation of its sustainability strategy, particularly through the m. a. s Clean Operation axis, focused on accelerating the transition to renewable sources within its operations.
“ The transition to a clean energy matrix is part of a structural vision of sustainability that guides our operational decisions. This progress reflects a planned work to make our production more responsible and efficient,” says Jacqueline Calvachi, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs, Moderna Alimentos.
Currently, the plant is supplied with hydroelectric energy from the Barka Capital Hydro-Normandy plant, which has an installed capacity of 49.6 MW. Through this supply, Moderna Alimentos receives approximately 2,200 MWh per year, a volume that allows it to cover 100 % of its electricity consumption in this operation.
The shift to renewable energy not only strengthens the sustainability of the business but also generates a concrete environmental impact. Thanks to this transition, the plant avoids the emission of 365 tonnes of CO 2 per year, contributing significantly to the reduction of its carbon footprint.
This milestone reflects a broader commitment by the company to align its operations with global sustainability goals and responsible production practices. By investing in renewable energy sources, Moderna Alimentos is positioning itself as a forward-thinking player in the regional food industry while also addressing growing environmental concerns.
As sustainability becomes increasingly important across industries, Moderna Alimentos’ transition to 100 % renewable energy highlights the tangible benefits of adopting cleaner technologies.
The company’ s focus on operational efficiency and sustainability is embedded within its long-term strategy, ensuring that environmental responsibility becomes a core component of business performance rather than an isolated initiative. This approach enables the organisation to optimise resource use while maintaining consistent production standards.
From the Quito production plant, Moderna Alimentos produces more than 10,000 tons per year of bread, panettone and other food solutions from the portfolio of its Moderna and Moderna Gourmet brands. This output supports both domestic demand and the company’ s broader commercial ambitions.
As sustainability becomes increasingly important across industries, Moderna Alimentos’ transition to 100 % renewable energy highlights the tangible benefits of adopting cleaner technologies. It demonstrates how operational changes can deliver measurable environmental outcomes while supporting business growth.
The company continues to explore additional opportunities to enhance its sustainability performance, reinforcing its commitment to responsible production and long-term environmental stewardship across all areas of its operations. • www. intelligentcio. com
