Eletronet invests US $ 157 million to expand fibre optic network

Eletronet plans to expand its infrastructure, backed by an investment of US $ 157 million.

The project includes the implementation of about 8 thousand kilometres of OPGW( Optical Ground Wire) optical fibre, representing growth of approximately 50 % over the company’ s current network and forming 21 new routes. In addition, 85 new Edge Data Centers will be built, enabling the company to further expand specialised services to regional Internet Providers( ISPs), telecommunications operators, OTT( Over-The-Top) providers and Data Centers, bringing edge infrastructure closer to the consumer market.
The project will be delivered in three phases, the first in the second quarter and the remaining phases in the second half of 2026. By completion, the company will add 26 thousand kilometres of routes and 255 Edge Data Centers across 23 states in all regions of the country.
“ This investment is a response to the new demands for connectivity, driven by the expansion of the use of AI, Cloud, Internet of Things and Data Centers. This scenario requires high-capacity networks, high resilience, low latency, greater route diversity and operational predictability,” says Rogério Garchet, CEO, Eletronet.
The initiative expands the company’ s portfolio with colocation offers in Edge Data Centers and strengthens the ecosystem of IP transit and connectivity products, which are interconnected to 35 Data Centers and 25 Internet Exchanges, interconnection points for the direct exchange of national and international traffic, supporting enterprises and service providers nationwide.
“ We are reinforcing our role as a neutral hub of connectivity, infrastructure and innovation services, allowing us to serve more than a thousand new cities in the interior of Brazil through a highly resilient network with a 99.9 % real availability rate. This will also drive greater digitalisation of the population and improve the quality of service to the corporate market,” he says.
The project marks the company’ s entry into five new states – Pará, Mato Grosso, Espírito Santo, Acre and Rondônia – while reinforcing and densifying the existing network in the North, Northeast, Southeast and South regions, with new investments in routes in states including São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Maranhão and Paraíba.
The new optical mesh will connect major capitals, small and medium-sized cities and strategic areas near international borders, potentially impacting more than
16.2 million inhabitants. It will also increase interconnection opportunities with Latin American markets such as Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru and Bolivia, whose Internet providers will be able to connect to Eletronet’ s network through new Edge Data Centers in Chuí( RS), Foz do Iguaçu( PR) and Assis Brasil( AC).
“ We expect that the installed optical routes will allow a capacity of up to 38.4 Tbps per stretch, with state-of-the-art technology combined with high spectral efficiency, which will maximise the use of bandwidth,” says Emerson Hioki, Chief Technology Officer, Eletronet.
The expansion project also reinforces Eletronet’ s commitment to sustainable practices. The company operates with renewable energy sources and solar energy will supply the new Edge Data Centers. •
