PROJECT ROUND-UP

CHILE
Amazon plans to launch an Amazon Web Services( AWS) infrastructure Region in Chile by the end of 2026. The new AWS South America( Chile) Region will enable developers, startups, enterprises and organizations across industries to run applications and serve end users from data centers located in Chile.
COSTA RICA
Liberty and Ericsson have signed a strategic contract to deploy the first 5G Standalone( 5G SA) mobile service in Costa Rica, marking a major milestone in the digitalization of the country and Central America.
Amazon intends to invest more than $ 4 billion in the country to support construction, connection, operation and maintenance of these facilities.
The project utilizes Ericsson’ s dual-mode 5G Core solution to build a fully 5G-native infrastructure, independent of 4G, supporting massive IoT growth and advanced mobile broadband.
“ The AWS South America( Chile) Region will help meet the growing demand for secure and reliable cloud services across Latin America,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services, AWS.
“ Organizations will be able to build with advanced AWS technologies such as AI and machine learning, accelerating growth and innovation.”
Aisén Etcheverry Escudero, Chile’ s Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, said:“ AWS’ s expansion demonstrates confidence in our country and commitment to technological development across the region.”
The new Region will launch with three Availability Zones, joining 114 existing zones across 36 Regions worldwide. It will feature energyefficient, air-cooled infrastructure designed to minimize water use.
Since 2017, AWS has trained over two million people in Latin America, including more than 100,000 in Chile, through programs like AWS Academy and AWS Educate.
The 5G SA network will deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability for consumers and businesses while enabling advanced Fixed Wireless Access( FWA) services in areas lacking fiber or cable connectivity. Over 1,400 sites will connect consumers and enterprises nationwide, benefiting more than 3.7 million subscribers with high-performance mobile services and next-generation digital capabilities.
“ This milestone represents a significant advance for Liberty Latin America’ s markets,” said Guillermo Ponce, Senior Vice President for Central and South America, Liberty Latin America.
“ We’ re reinforcing our commitment to offer Costa Ricans the best experience with state-of-the-art technology, boosting economic growth and innovation through 5G SA.”
Ericsson’ s solutions include its latest radio access network( RAN) products – such as Massive MIMO AIR 3255, millimeter wave AIR 5322, and single-band Radio 4432 – supported by AI-enabled basebands and operating across the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands.
The Chile Region builds on AWS’ s continued investments in the country, including CloudFront, Ground Station, Outposts, Direct Connect and Local Zones in Santiago, further supporting Chile’ s digital transformation and sustainable cloud growth.
“ The deployment of the 5G SA network in Costa Rica marks a significant step forward, enabling enhanced user experiences and driving innovation,” said Sean Cryan, Head of LATAM North and Caribbean, Ericsson. www. intelligentcio. com INTELLIGENTCIO LATAM
