Aeromexico enhances inflight Wi-Fi on Embraer jets with support from Viasat

Embraer, a global aerospace company based in Brazil, satellite communications leader Viasat, and Latin American airline Aeromexico have announced the rollout of advanced in-flight Internet connectivity on Aeromexico’ s E190 jets, further integrating the airline’ s fleet with high-speed Wi-Fi for its customers.

According to the partners, the high-speed satellite connection delivered through Viasat’ s global Ka-band network will allow
Aeromexico passengers on these aircraft to stream movies and TV shows, watch live sports, browse the Internet, send emails and connect to their social networks while onboard.
To date, six Aeromexico Embraer E190 aircraft are already equipped with Viasat’ s advanced Wi-Fi technology, enabling customers to experience fast and reliable Internet access in the air. Installation of Viasat’ s in-flight Wi-Fi system on the remaining 28 aircraft – bringing the total to 34 E190s – is currently in progress.
Andres Castañeda, Chief Digital and Customer Experience Officer & EVP at Aeromexico, said:“ With Wi- Fi available on all our E190 aircraft by 2027, Aeromexico will be the first and only airline in Latin America to offer ad-supported free messaging across our entire network. This means our passengers can stay connected wherever they fly, with the option to purchase Internet packages for enhanced connectivity.”
Viasat Amara, the next-generation in-flight connectivity solution chosen by Aeromexico, is now available to all E-Jets customers worldwide, offering a premium onboard digital experience.

Nokia and MX Fiber extend gigabit access across Southeast Mexico

MX Fiber has partnered with Nokia to deploy a high-speed optical transport backbone network, delivering reliable, high-capacity connectivity across Southeast Mexico.

The Southeast remains one of Mexico’ s most underserved regions despite its large population. Customers in Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo – and soon in Campeche and Veracruz – will gain faster Internet, improved cloud access, and support for data-intensive applications in areas that have long lacked adequate infrastructure.
Nestor Bergero, CEO of MX Fiber, said the solution delivers massive capacity and high-quality services at a lower operational cost. He added that it is crucial for supporting customers and for the success of mega-projects such as the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the Maya Train, both designed to spur economic development in the region.
The 1,800 km expansion will leverage Nokia’ s Flex-Grid DWDM technology and 1830 Photonic Service Switch( PSS) to provide scalable 10G, 100G and 200G services. This additional capacity will support connections to modern data centers, industrial parks, and subsea transport hubs, which are essential for commerce, mobility, and Digital Transformation.
According to Nokia, its 1830 PSS solution will enable efficient, costeffective service delivery and smooth upgrades to 400G and 800G without disrupting existing services. The network will also integrate dynamic network management and real-time performance monitoring using Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry( OTDR).
