Internet Para Todos in Peru expands services contract with Gilat

Gilat Satellite Networks , a worldwide leader in satellite networking technology , solutions and services , has announced that Internet Para Todos ( IPT ) in Peru is expanding its contract with Gilat , for 4G cellular backhaul services over the Internet .

IPT is a global collaborative between Telefónica , Meta ( formerly Facebook ), IDB Invest and CAF . The initiative is bridging the digital divide in Latin America and providing Internet connectivity to remote regions of Peru .
Gilat provides 4G cellular backhaul services over the Internet that are being deployed at more than 100 new sites to provide coverage to rural zones through Gilat ’ s access network . The new multiyear contract addresses 4G connectivity to smaller villages and is expected to further grow over time .
“ The services from Gilat have been instrumental in helping us to supply the population of Peru with broadband connectivity , even in the most rural regions ,” said Teresa Gomes , CEO at IPT .

MTC in Peru inaugurates a new Digital Access Center in Maras

The Ministry of Transport and Communications in Peru has inaugurated a new Digital Access Center ( CAD ) in the district of Maras , in Cusco , with the purpose of reducing the Internet access gap in the rural areas .

The Digital Access Centers are physical spaces with free Internet access that are implemented with technological equipment .
With this initiative , promoted by the MTC through the National Telecommunications Program ( Pronatel ), there are already 22 CAD implemented in Cusco .
As a result this state program that will benefit 25,000 citizens in that region has been 100 % completed .
The Executive Director of Pronatel , Omar Álvarez Herrera , stated that the technological skills that the inhabitants of Maras will acquire : “ Will allow them to carry out virtual procedures in public and private entities , evaluate business opportunities in the digital sphere and acquire knowledge that can help improve the quality of life of families .”
Álvarez pointed out that the 22 CADs are located in the population centers of Huaro , Ancahuasi , Huarocondo , Quellouna , Villa Virgen , Condoroma , Coya , Lucre , Ocongate , Chamaca , El Descanso , Acopia , Combopata , Paccaritambo , Livitaca , Tocra , Layo , Pomacanchi , Quebrada Honda , Velille , Acchaentro and Maras .
In the CADs , there will be free access to a platform that has been designed in Spanish and Quechua , called www . todosconectados . pe , which is focused on improving the user experience and allowing the correct use of digital public services .
