RNP taps Nokia and Q13 to build 800G-ready AI research network in Brazil

Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa( RNP), Brazil’ s national research and education network and the largest in Latin America, has selected Nokia and Q13 to modernize rede Ipê with 4.8 Tbps of aggregate capacity and a path to 800G.

More than 350 routers will be deployed. Nokia will supply core, aggregation, peering and universal provider edge capabilities using its 7750 Service Router and 7250 Interconnect Router platforms, while Q13 will manage implementation and migration.
The modernization will overhaul critical IP infrastructure serving more than four million users as research institutions face rising traffic from artificial intelligence, data centres, scientific collaboration and private wireless networks.
The secure, automated, high-performance IP network will provide the foundation for AI-enabled research, scientific discovery and digital innovation across Brazil.
The shift gives RNP core, aggregation, peering and edge equipment from a single technology provider for the first time, designed to increase automation and simplify operations across the national backbone.
RNP said the upgraded network would support research while strengthening connections between Brazilian institutions and international research communities. The organisation links to more than 125 academic networks across more than 100 countries in the Americas, Europe and Africa.
Ari Frazão, Adjunct Director of Engineering and Operations, described rede Ipê as“ critical infrastructure” as AI and advanced research place heavier demands on connectivity.
The project puts network capacity at the centre of Brazil’ s research ambitions, upgrading the physical infrastructure required to move increasingly large datasets securely, reliably and at speed nationwide as AI workloads reshape scientific computing.

Claro and Oracle launch Argentina’ s first locally operated hyperscale cloud

Argentina is pulling hyperscale cloud computing onto home soil. Claro and Oracle are launching the country’ s first locally operated, full-capacity hyperscale cloud, giving businesses and government agencies access to AI-scale infrastructure without pushing critical data offshore.

Claro said its new platform, built on Oracle Alloy and operated from an Argentine data centre will give customers access to more than 200 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and artificial intelligence services while keeping operations and data under local control.
The move puts data sovereignty at the centre of Argentina’ s cloud market. Government agencies, banks, healthcare providers, energy companies and retailers need highperformance infrastructure while facing tighter requirements around where sensitive information is stored, processed and managed.
Oracle Alloy allows partners to operate cloud services under their own brands, extending Oracle’ s hyperscale infrastructure into locally controlled environments. Claro will combine that technology with its infrastructure and market presence.
Julio Porras Zadik, CEO of Claro Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, said the platform would give Argentina access to the technology catalogue of a locally operated hyperscale provider for the first time.
“ Digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence require an infrastructure prepared not only for today’ s challenges but also those of the future,” he said.
Oracle said the deployment reflected its distributed cloud strategy, which pushes hyperscale services closer to customers while allowing local providers to control operations.
For Argentina, this goes beyond another cloud launch. The platform creates domestic infrastructure for AI workloads, regulated data and critical applications, reducing dependence on offshore processing while expanding local access to hyperscale computing. www. intelligentcio. com
