Across Latin America, operators are expanding data centres, cloud facilities and broadcasting platforms while facing rising electricity demand, constrained grids and growing sustainability targets. Against that backdrop, the prospect of deploying nuclear microreactors directly at mission-critical facilities has moved beyond theory and into early commercial planning.

Terra Innovatum Global’ s latest agreement with Waiken ILW represents one of the region’ s most ambitious attempts to bring behind-the-meter nuclear power to digital infrastructure. While still subject to a Letter of Intent rather than a final deployment contract, the proposal illustrates how energy strategy is becoming inseparable from technology infrastructure planning.
The agreement would initially support DIRECTV Latin America and SKY Brasil broadcasting data centres in Argentina and
Brazil using Terra Innovatum’ s SOLO micromodular reactor platform.
A different approach to data centre power
Unlike traditional utility-scale nuclear power stations, Terra Innovatum is promoting a factory-built microreactor designed for deployment wherever reliable electricity is required. Rather than relying entirely on national electricity grids, organisations could generate power directly on-site, reducing dependence on external infrastructure.
The initial Letter of Intent covers up to 8 MWe of behind-the-meter generating capacity across selected Waiken ILW facilities.
Although considerably smaller than conventional nuclear generating stations, microreactors are increasingly being viewed as potential solutions for applications where continuous power availability is more important than sheer generating scale.
