Elea to build Amazon region’ s first AI data centre in Brazil powered by renewable energy
Elea Data Centers, in partnership with AXIA Energia, will launch the first AI-neutral data centre in the Amazon region in Belém, Pará state.
Operations are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with an initial capacity of 7.5MW, backed by demand from major anchor clients. The facility could expand to 100MW in future phases. Elea will operate the site, while AXIA will supply 100 % renewable energy through a Power Purchase Agreement, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to sustainable Digital Transformation infrastructure.
Built near the Miramar high-voltage substation, operated by AXIA, the data centre will provide reliable power, operational efficiency and flexibility for future expansion.
Alessandro Lombardi, CEO and founder of Elea Data Centers, said the North region would play a fundamental role in Brazil’ s digital ecosystem by providing an alternative route to Fortaleza, reducing digital inequality and boosting regional competitiveness. He said BEL1 would create a lasting COP30 legacy by demonstrating the value of sustainable digital infrastructure in strategic, remote regions.
Ítalo Freitas, Vice President of Commercialization and Energy Solutions at AXIA, said the partnership highlighted the company’ s ability to deliver firm, reliable, renewable energy for major Digital Transformation projects while supporting connectivity and economic development across the Amazon.
Belém also occupied a strategic position as a complementary route to Fortaleza, Brazil’ s main submarine cable gateway. Connections through the Norte Conectado programme and expanding coastal fibre routes to Europe and Latin America strengthened resilience, increased route diversity and established the city as an emerging regional digital hub for investment.
Quectel opens Manaus R & D centre to accelerate IoT innovation across Latin America
Quectel Wireless Solutions has expanded its global research and development network with the opening of a new R & D centre in Manaus, Brazil – strengthening its longterm commitment to Latin America while bringing engineering expertise closer to regional customers and partners.
Located in one of Brazil’ s leading technology and manufacturing hubs, the new facility will support customers across the LATAM market by providing local engineering resources, faster technical assistance and closer collaboration on Internet of Things deployments. The centre will also promote Quectel’ s portfolio of smart modules, short-range wireless technologies and PCBA and ODM IoT solutions.

Quectel selected Manaus because of its established electronics ecosystem, skilled engineering workforce and proximity to key customers throughout Latin America. The company said the investment supports its strategy of expanding regional innovation capabilities while contributing to global product development.
Engineers based at the new centre will support applications including industrial automation, utilities, smart metering and asset tracking alongside other fast-growing IoT sectors. The Manaus team will also collaborate with Quectel’ s worldwide R & D operations while supporting local innovation initiatives. Quectel plans to expand its software and hardware engineering workforce during the coming year to strengthen regional support and accelerate global technology development. •
