Tecto announces US $ 200 million investment in new data centre in Porto Alegre connected to V. tal’ s submarine cable
Tecto Data Centers has invested approximately US $ 200 million to develop a new data center in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, named TPOA1. The investment represents a major expansion of the company’ s presence in southern Brazil and responds to rising demand for resilient, high-capacity digital infrastructure. Located in Porto Alegre, the facility is designed to support cloud, enterprise and content driven workloads requiring low latency connectivity and dependable access to regional and international networks.
The company already owns a 33,000 square meter plot of land in the Sarandi neighborhood, where the project will be developed. The site was selected for its proximity to critical infrastructure and data consumption hubs and provides space for future expansion. Once completed, the facility will deliver a total power capacity of 20 MW and will be connected to the Malbec submarine cable, which links Brazil and Argentina by connecting Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and soon Porto Alegre. The cable system is currently under construction and is expected to strengthen cross border connectivity.
In its first phase, scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, TPOA1 will deliver 3 MW of capacity, with

The project will be delivered through the retrofit of an existing warehouse on the site, adapted to meet the technical and operational standards required for high performance data centers. This approach is intended to shorten deployment timelines while ensuring scalability and reliability.
“ This project reinforces Tecto’ s strategy to expand its operations and infrastructure in key regions of the country, combining resilient connectivity, energy efficiency and proximity to major data consumption hubs,” said Tito Costa, CRO, Tecto.“ The direct connection to V. tal’ s Malbec cable positions Porto Alegre as a strategic point for critical applications, cloud services and content delivery.”
The data center will feature a closed loop air cooling system with zero water consumption and will operate using 100 percent renewable energy. These design choices align operational performance with environmental sustainability and respond to customer expectations for lower carbon digital infrastructure.“ The use of solar energy and efficient cooling solutions is part of our commitment to growing responsibly and innovatively, meeting the demands of global clients without compromising sustainability,” Costa said.
TPOA1 will serve big tech companies, digital content firms, cloud providers and enterprise customers, expanding the supply of digital infrastructure in southern Brazil. With this investment, Tecto is strengthening Porto Alegre’ s digital ecosystem and consolidating the city’ s role as a hub for connectivity and data infrastructure.
“ This investment is a direct result of the position Rio Grande do Sul has achieved in recent years, driven by consistent efforts by the state government to transform the state into an international reference hub for technology and digital infrastructure,” said Governor Eduardo Leite.“ Connecting the new data center to the Malbec submarine cable places Rio Grande do Sul on the global data route and increases competitiveness.”
Additional economic benefits are expected for regional innovation ecosystems and skilled employment. •
