Software development is undergoing one of the biggest transformations in the technology industry.

With the advancement of Low-Code platforms, the creation of applications has already become faster and more robust, in addition to relying on the convergence between this tool and Generative Artificial Intelligence which ushers in a new era profoundly impacting the way companies build, use and evolve their systems.
Both technologies have been advancing among companies around the world. The Low-Code market is expected to grow from US $ 37.39 billion in 2025 to US $ 264.40 billion in 2032, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate( CAGR) of 32.2 % during the forecast period, according to Fortune Business Insights. McKinsey, on the other hand, states that in 2024, 72 % of the world’ s companies have already adopted AI at work, a significant advance compared to 55 % in 2023.
By combining the technological duo, the business and technology areas begin to co-operate in a more agile and efficient way, enabling the creation of applications from natural language descriptions, eliminating the dependence on manual coding and allowing companies to transform ideas into functional solutions with speed.
At the same time, systems are becoming smarter and more intuitive. Instead of requiring users to adapt to interfaces, it is now software that learns to understand users’ needs through conversational and adaptive interactions. This simultaneous transformation, in the way we develop software and how we interact with it, represents a tipping point that enhances Digital Transformation in all areas of the business.
This scenario brings a new strategic challenge to CIOs when we see a demand that involves not only adopting new technologies to innovate but completely reprogramming the IT strategy of organisations. The role of leaders becomes that of Digital Transformation orchestrator, responsible for integrating open, flexible and sustainable systems capable of continuously evolving in an environment of constant innovation.
The convergence between Low-Code and Generative AI requires a complete overhaul of the solution architecture. Traditional development, based on manual code writing, gives way to a logic oriented to knowledge modelling, whose applications are generated automatically in a coherent and scalable way. This does not mean less control for CIOs but rather a greater focus on curation and orchestration: defining the rules, workflows and knowledge bases will ensure the consistency and sustainability of systems.
Another critical point is data governance. As Generative AI starts to act in increasingly strategic processes, ensuring the integrity, privacy and traceability of information becomes essential. CIOs will be challenged with structuring robust data policies, creating secure environments and at the same time ensuring that the company maintains technological autonomy, avoiding excessive dependence on a single vendor or platform.
More than a trend, organisations that can structure an efficient Low-Code and Generative AI strategy will be more prepared to respond to constant market transformations and explore new growth opportunities.
For CIOs, it is an opportunity to lead the evolution of companies, transforming the IT area into a true engine of innovation capable of delivering more agile, intelligent solutions aligned with the strategic objectives of the business. The future of software development has already begun and it will be shaped by those who know how to orchestrate knowledge in a scalable and sustainable way. p
