EBANX launches access to Colombia’ s new instant payment system, Bre-B, for global businesses
EBANX has partnered with MOVii to enable global companies to accept payments through Bre-B, Colombia’ s new instant payment system – from its first day of nationwide operation.
Modeled after Brazil’ s Pix, Bre-B offers interoperability, 24 / 7 availability, and real-time settlement, marking a new phase in Colombia’ s digital payment landscape.
More than 30 million Colombians – 76 % of the adult population – have already registered for Bre-B, according to the central bank, while only 18 % have credit cards. The shift toward digital and alternative payments reflects the country’ s rapid financial transformation.
“ Bre-B is a game-changer for Colombia’ s digital economy, just like Pix was for Brazil,” said Eduardo de Abreu, VP of Product at EBANX.
Katherine Roa, CCO at MOVii, said that consumers can now“ shop with global brands using the same instant, secure payment method they use locally.”
EBANX, serving on the central bank’ s advisory committee, helped design Bre-B’ s interoperability features, including QR payments, ID-based user keys and anti-fraud limits. Unlike Pix, Bre-B connects multiple existing rails such as Transfiya, EntreCuentas and Credibanco into one unified ecosystem.
Colombia’ s digital economy, growing at double-digit rates since 2019, is projected to reach US $ 52 billion in 2025 and US $ 73 billion by 2028, according to PCMI data cited by EBANX.
Through MOVii’ s Smart Router, EBANX enables global merchants to connect via a single integration, streamlining transactions and expanding digital access for millions of Colombians.
