FEATURE: MOBILE
The Economic Equation
Why Wi-Fi can still deliver
• Spectrum efficiency gap: Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 can transmit more data in the same bandwidth than older standards
• Better deployment: Adding mesh routers or boosters in homes and offices can enhance indoor coverage without new spectrum
• Existing bands suffice: Latin America’ s 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and lower 6 GHz allocations are more than enough to meet Wi-Fi demand until at least 2035
In other words, Wi-Fi has untapped efficiency to exploit while mobile networks are already straining at the seams.
The GSMA report projects that allocating the upper 6 GHz to licensed IMT use could deliver 7 × more economic benefit for Latin America than if it were reserved for Wi-Fi.
BY 2030 EACH COUNTRY
WILL NEED AN AVERAGE OF 2 GHZ OF MID-BAND SPECTRUM – A DEMAND
IMPOSSIBLE TO MEET WITHOUT USING
THE UPPER 6 GHZ.
