About Canal 13
At 65 years old, Channel 13 is a media outlet that has maintained its innovative identity over time, producing and broadcasting programs that reflect its leadership, pluralism, vision of service and information and entertainment at the highest level.
Although it now belongs to a multimedia company, the station’ s origins date back to a university broadcast that began in 1959, produced by students at the Catholic University of Chile. That broadcast had a range of nearly four kilometers, and since then the channel has progressively assumed a leading role in the national television industry.
In technical terms, Channel 13 has been a pioneer, being the first to broadcast in color; and in recent years, it has also been at the forefront, being the first station with a fully digitalized press area and the first channel to have a Full High-Definition studio on Chilean broadcast television.
Starting in November 2017, Channel 13 underwent a change in ownership and is currently 100 % owned by businessman Andrónico Luksic, closing an important chapter in the station’ s history, which is closely linked to the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
• Built-in disaster resilience: ActiveScale’ s multi-site durability safeguards content against natural disasters.
The project began with a proof-of-concept to demonstrate Myriad’ s and ActiveScale’ s capabilities, leading quickly to full-scale deployment. Canal 13 leveraged the Quantum GO subscription model, enabling them to deploy the solution with an OpExbased payment structure. This approach aligned technology investment with operational budgets and ensured instant access to high-performance infrastructure without delay.
“ Canal 13’ s new Quantum-based infrastructure represents a true next-generation model for broadcast operations,” said Brian Cabrera, Chief Administrative Officer, Quantum.
