Cirion to expand existing Brazilian data center

Expansion immediately adjacent to Cirion ’ s existing facilities in Rio de Janeiro supports a new state-of-the-art , carrier-neutral and energy-efficient 60 MW data center .

Ciron has acquired a 15,000-squaremeter site , located immediately adjacent to its existing highinterconnect RIO1 data center in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil to support the expansion of its footprint in the region .

Cirion is backed by Stonepeak , a leading alternative investment firm specializing in infrastructure and real assets with more than $ 71.2 billion in assets under management and a broad portfolio of investments in communications and digital infrastructure globally .
The new site , which is located in the São Cristovão neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro , will support a RIO2 new carrier-neutral data center installation of up to 60 Megawatts .
RIO2 will have access to a business- friendly environment and renewable energy sources , an already established ecosystem with more than fifty network and cloud providers , diverse metropolitan and long-distance connectivity with major cities and technology hubs in the region and will be in close proximity to international submarine cable networks to offer minimal latency between Latin America and other regions .
( SAO1 ), Rio de Janeiro ( RIO1 ) and Curitiba ( CUR1 ) which are strategically located in secure and easily accessible regions and close to major business centers , – enabling greater logistical and operational agility .
RIO2 will also be integrated into Cirion ’ s broader carrier-neutral platform , comprising 18 data centers across Latin America .
Through its platform , Cirion provides colocation , cross-connectivity and disaster recovery capabilities to meet the demand needs of various hyperscalers , carriers , content providers and enterprises – customers can connect directly to more than 100 network service providers and leading public cloud providers operating in the region via peer-to-peer connectivity .
“ The acquisition of this land supports the continued expansion of our data center campus in Rio de Janeiro , highlighting another important milestone on our path to grow the low-latency interconnected data center platform and establish a thriving digital ecosystem in Latin America ,” said Facundo Castro , CEO , Cirion Technologies .
Nelson Fonseca , President of Cirion ’ s Data Center business unit , said : “ RIO2 will be a next-generation , carrier-neutral and energy-efficient data center with direct fiber connectivity to Cirion ’ s existing ecosystem from day one , providing interconnectionoriented colocation capacity to the region ’ s fast-growing data center market .”
The acquisition of this land and the development of RIO2 complements Cirion ’ s current data center developments in Santiago , Chile ( SAN2 ) and Lima , Peru ( LIM2 ), as well as the recently completed expansion of its data center campus in SAO1 .
These projects ensure continued scalability for Cirion ’ s customers as digital transformation and cloud adoption continue to proliferate rapidly in Latin America . p
RIO2 , expected to be ready to enter service in 2026 , will mark Cirion ’ s fourth data center asset in Brazil and will connect directly to the rest of Cirion ’ s Brazilian platform via redundant dark fiber primary paths .
The Brazilian platform currently comprises three data center campuses in São Paulo
