Entel continues with the plan to support the replacement of 2G cellphones in Chile

Entel will carry out a technological upgrade of its mobile network , which includes the gradual shutdown of its 2G network starting from the second semester of 2024 .

The company has already initiated a support plan for the replacement of mobile devices that are only compatible with 2G , aiming to facilitate technological advancement . The first stage took place with a prioritized group in the Biobío Region , and from August 29 , the same task was carried out in the communities of Puerto Cisnes and Río Ibáñez in the Aysén Region .
To be eligible for a device replacement , the plan gives priority to Entel customers ( prepaid and subscription ) aged 70 and above who reside in rural areas without access to delivery services , as is the case in both communities in the region . Additionally , an information campaign will be conducted to clearly explain the benefits of replacement and the steps to follow .
“ In our nearly 60 years of history , we have worked to provide Chileans with the most robust mobile network in the country , whether it ’ s a large city , a rural town , or even remote places like Rapa Nui ,” said Patricia Muñoz , Director of Territory and Stakeholder Groups at Entel .
“ Over time , our network has evolved alongside various mobile technologies to ensure our customers enjoy top-level connectivity and browsing experiences . It is in this process of evolution that we are shutting down the 2G network , and we have implemented a proactive territorial deployment where we will inform customers to facilitate this transformation with minimal impact .”
