Akamai Technologies has formally announced the launch of seven new core compute regions across Europe , Asia , North America and Latin America . The new sites in Amsterdam , Jakarta , Los Angeles , Miami , Milan , Osaka and São Paulo mark the third phase in Akamai ’ s ongoing rollout of new core compute regions . This follows its acquisition of Linode last year and underscores the company ’ s effort to reshape the cloud landscape .
By adding São Paulo and Miami to its network , Akamai simplifies doing business in Latin America . These new regions make Akamai a compelling rival in a market traditionally controlled by larger hyperscale providers . Akamai ’ s new presence in São Paulo enables customers to run workloads in one of the southern hemisphere ’ s busiest cities and nations . This eliminates the economic and performance obstacles that typically require workloads to be routed across continents . São Paulo and Miami exemplify Akamai ’ s mission to create core compute regions in challenging markets globally . These are connected to the same underlying backbone that powers its current edge network , a system spread over 4,100 edge Points of Presence ( PoPs ) in 131 countries .
