Imperva discovers vulnerability affecting 2.5 billion Chrome users

Normally used to point to another file or directory , these links are useful for creating shortcuts or re-organising files . However , they usually come with warnings that a user might be linking to sensitive data . In the new vulnerability , attackers can avoid creating these warnings : meaning attackers can use symlinks to directly access users ’ sensitive files , e . g . by offering fake ‘ recovery ’ keys .

Imperva , a leader in the digital security space , has revealed a new vulnerability dubbed CVE-2022-40764 . Discovered by Imperva ’ s Threat Research Team , it has been found to affect more than 2.5 billion

users of Google Chrome and Chromiumbased browsers .
The vulnerability is based on the way these browsers process symbolic links , or symlinks .
This approach could be used to access anything from crypto wallets to cloud provider credentials . Given that between them Chrome and Chromium-based browsers account for more than 70 % of market share , the potential consequences of this vulnerability could be huge . Fortunately , Imperva has reported the vulnerability to Google and it was resolved in Chrome 108 . However , this means that updating Chrome is essential if individuals and organisations want to avoid falling victim to these symlink attacks .

ChicMe chooses Forter to optimize customer experience and support new market expansion

Forter , a trust platform for digital commerce , has announced that

ChicMe , a leading online women ’ s fashion brand , selected Forter to support its global expansion by improving payment processing , reducing fraud and increasing order fulfilment efficiency .
As a result of the partnership , the retailer has already reduced fraudrelated payment refusals , increased payment transaction rates and significantly improved the manual review process for uncertain orders .
ChicMe , a Geeko Tech fashion brand already popular in North America and Europe , experienced rapid growth throughout 2022 in Latin American markets such as Mexico and Brazil .
ChicMe sought a fraud prevention solution after encountering challenges with its payment and risk control processes in its emerging markets . An increase in fraudulent transactions in Latin America , for instance , directly impacted its profit margin and compromised its banking channels .
According to Forter ’ s research , denying legitimate transactions can cause up to 75 times more lost revenue for merchants than fraud . Known as ‘ false declines ’, these occurrences are more likely to hit new customers . New shoppers are five to seven times more likely to be declined by legacy fraud tools than returning customers . 40 % of those shoppers who are falsely declined will then move on to purchase from a competitor instead . Knowing this risk , ChicMe sought to reverse these challenges and improve the user experience across all regions .
