MinCiencias and CRC to finance research and development projects
The Ministry of Science , Technology and Innovation ( MinCiencias ) and the Communications Regulation Commission ( CRC ) has presented the results of the inaugural New Knowledge , Technological Development and Innovation for the Strengthening of the ICT , Postal and Audiovisual Content Sectors report , with which projects for the application of knowledge and cutting-edge technologies will be financed .
The advanced demand is part of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Sciences and the CRC , which aims to promote the execution of research , technological development and innovation projects , which allow improving , promoting , empowering and strengthening the sector ’ s ICT , postal and audiovisual content in Colombia , through the financing of projects with
5,103 million pesos . The proposals presented are led by universities from different areas of the country and will allow , through the application of knowledge and state-of-the-art technologies , the provision of solutions to problems in the ICT , postal and audiovisual sectors .
A total of 25 projects were presented for the two defined sectors : Research to expand the frontier of knowledge in regulatory matters for the ICT , postal and audiovisual content sectors and emerging technologies was applied to regulatory improvement in audiovisual content .
After completing the requirements review and evaluation stage , 15 proposals formed the bank of eligible projects , of which nine projects were selected in the first instance to be developed .
IFC supports Telecom Argentina to continue boosting digital connectivity
The International Finance Corporation ( IFC ) has announced a new loan of US $ 184.5 million to Telecom Argentina ( Telecom ), a leading company in the telecommunications sector in Argentina .
IFC ’ s seven-year financing package aims to promote digital connectivity in the country , especially in remote regions which have less service coverage . IFC ’ s long-term support to Telecom , when access to finance in Argentina is challenging , will fund the expansion of the company ’ s 4G / 4.5G and fiber optic networks throughout the country , including areas far from urban centers in the provinces of Salta , Tucumán , San Juan , Mendoza and Neuquén . This will help increase access to high-speed broadband , promoting economic development and regional productivity .
“ Supporting universal , affordable and reliable digital connectivity is one of IFC ’ s top priorities across Latin America and the Caribbean ,” said Adil Marghub , IFC ’ s Regional Head for Infrastructure . “ Well-developed digital infrastructure will improve Argentina ’ s productivity and contribute to sustainable and inclusive development .”
Through this financing agreement , Telecom – an IFC client since 2016 – will continue with the deployment of new mobile sites in various regions of the country while making capacity and energy efficiency improvements in existing sites . The company will also continue to deploy fiber optic networks to further improve the connectivity experience for its millions of customers .
