Mobile data traffic in Chile increased 39 % during the pandemic
Research by Entel has revealed a 39 % increase in mobile data traffic during more than 17 months of pandemic . The period saw a change in people ’ s behavior regarding greater connectivity with an increase in activities such as teleworking , online bill paying and shopping . Entel ’ s figures show a 39 % growth in mobile data traffic use , when comparing what happened in Chile during the first half of March 2020 , before starting the lockdowns , versus the first half of June this year . Regarding voice traffic on the mobile network , Entel data shows a growth of 23 % during the pandemic .
Manuel Araya , Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs of Entel , said : “ Since March 2020 we have experienced a significant increase in mobile data traffic due to the pandemic , which has required hard work to be able to maintain the connections of our users in a good way .
“ This involved , for example , working tirelessly to strengthen our entire network . The growth in data consumption continues to be important and remains above the average compared to the period prior to the health crisis .”
Entel ’ s mobile data traffic analysis indicates that , at the regional level , La Araucanía and Los Ríos led the rise in mobile data traffic during the pandemic , each reaching a growth of 74 %, followed by the Magallanes region , which increased by 65 % in the same period .
